European Shoe Magnates Proposing the Way to Get out of Dilemma
Since EU began its antidumping survey on China-made labor protection shoes on June 12, China-made shoes export has attracted extensive attention. At "How to Get China-made Shoe Export out of Dilemma" forum being held in Beijing, European shoe magnates expressed their views.
"It is unnecessary to worry too much about antidumping survey," said CEDDEC chairman Massimo Donda. He expressed his views with a comparison: Chinese shoe export to Europe is like a longstanding dam that has accumulated water for many years and now suddenly collapses. Torrential water will inevitably rush out of this dam, causing a sharp rise in export. This represents the achievement of China's economic growth. What should be done now is to keep everything under control.
Present at this forum includes ©ö¨Ì¿Õ¡Pù¦è, former president of Confederazione dei calzaturieri. He said humorously, with extensive entry of high-quality, low-price China-made shoes into Italy, medium and low-end shoemakers in Italy surely feel great pressure. However, this has no impact on high-end shoes like those produced by his company. "Europe has implemented quota system on Chinese textile for 20 years, but this has not enabled Europe to improve its competitive power in textile. Now, the shoe industry is following the old way."
"Only some shoemakers in CEDDEC reject Chinese products," said Massimo Donda. He gave some advice to Chinese shoemakers: To enter other's market, you must have your own brands. China-made shoes don't belong to small stalls only. Many European department stores want to deal in Chinese brands. CEDDEC has 80,000 sales outlets in Europe. He said he is willing to negotiate with Zhejiang enterprises for cooperation and will to introduce Chinese products and Zhejiang products to more countries and more people.
